Young Guyanese Grass Track Enthusiasts Aim to Break the King’s Record

Former Guyanese ‘King of Grass Track’ Niky Ramsarran presents the winning trophy to 12-year-old Justin Ten Pow who is aiming to topple Ramsaran’s winning record.

GUYANA – Former Guyanese ‘King of Grass Track’ Niky Ramsarran, met the young enthusiasts of the sport, who aim to break his record of no loss from 1992 to 2000, when the MOTO Sharks and the Police Force in collaboration with Men On A Mission (MOM) held its Grass Track Meet at the GNS Ground on Carifesta Avenue, in Georgetown Guyana, on April 30.

Ramsarran, a businessman, residing in New York was a special invited guest and a sponsor of one of the races, at the event.

Ramsarran was dubbed the ‘King of Grass Track’ in the 90s. He last raced in Guyana in 2003 at the Ogle Center ground, before migrating to the United States that same year. He told The West Indian that he was pleased to see young Guyanese taking an interest in the sports, which was dormant for a while. Ramsarran, who owns D Nickis Auto Repairs in Queens, New York, sponsored the 85 CC class Championship Rider Trophy.

He was on hand to present the trophy to the winner, 12-year-old Justin Ten Pow, whose family are no strangers to motor racing in Guyana.

According to Ramsarran, should young Ten Pow continue in the sports, he could topple his (Ramsarran) unbeaten winning streak.

The former dirt biker, said he was very pleased that the sport is making a come back and young people are taking an interest.

Ramsaran said he will sponsor the 85 CC trophy for the rest of the year to help promote the sport. Other sponsors of the event included: Pure Harvest Inc, Dinar Trading, Secure Innovations & Concepts Inc. (SIC), Ambassador Bus Service, Bently Security Service, BusBox Investment Inc, D. Singh, B. Rosool Mining, Mac Battery, City Printery, Aronco Inc.

The Motor Sharks Bike Club was started by Grasstrack enthusiast Mr Ravi Singh.
