Three Killed in West Coast Berbice Crash

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Jun 14, CMC – Three people were killed and three others, including a six-month-old baby, were injured following a vehicular accident at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice on Monday.

Police have identified the dead as 23-year-old Carlos Edwards, 61-year-old Hookumchand Parmanand, and a woman who is yet to be identified.

The injured have been identified as Lakeram Mangal, 57, Joyclyn Cole, 27 and a six-month-old baby girl.

The police are investigating reports that the driver of the taxi lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into the concrete and mesh fence wall of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) building before hitting a lamppost and overturning in a drain.

The occupants of the vehicle were rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital, where the driver and two passengers were pronounced dead.

The other passengers were treated and later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical treatment. The baby’s condition is described as being critical but stable.
