South Queens Women’s March to Host Second Essentials Giveaway

QUEENS, NEW YORK — South Queens Women’s March, a New York City non-profit organization will be hosting its Second Essentials Giveaway on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

The event will be held at Roy Wilkins Park, Queens, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm, and the organization will be distributing free grocery bags courtesy of The Campaign Against Hunger, free face masks courtesy of Queens Economic Development Corporation and NYC Mayor’s Office, and menstrual supplies (free pads and tampons) from donations to its period supply drive.

Items will be distributed on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The organization, on its website, states, “We are grateful in advance to our partners at Southern Queens Parks Association for sharing their space with us!”

South Queens Women’s March is a gender justice organization that advocates for the equity for women and gender non-conforming folks in South Queens. “During the pandemic, we want to provide period supplies for those in need, shed light on the stigma and resulting misinformation, and create a movement to end the silence and biases about periods,” the group states on its website.

“You can play a pivotal role in helping us do this. First, you can donate to our period supply drive to ensure access to those who are in need. Second, you can email us your period story to share with others to combat period stigma. Third, you can share our period supply drive and information with your friends and family. If you believe everyone has a right to feel comfortable, clean, and participate fully in daily life, join our PERIOD MOVEMENT,” it says.
