Recently, the Richmond Hill-South Ozone Park Lions Club (RHSOPLC) hosted the International First Vice-President of Lions Clubs International, Lion Douglas X Alexander, during a gathering of Lions at the Impulse Lounge located at 129-04 Liberty Avenue recently.

Lion Doug is on the final lap of his meetings and consultations in preparation for the prestigious post of President of Lions Clubs International (LCI). LCI currently represents Lions Clubs in more than two hundred countries worldwide, and Lion Doug is on track to be inducted as President during the International Convention which will be held in Montreal, Canada, in June 2021.

Born in Brooklyn and a Lion for more than 36 years, Lion Douglas Alexander worked in the banking Industry while building a strong resume in LCI, the world’s largest service organization. Today he stands on the threshold of creating history as the first African American President of LCI in its 104-year history, and RHSOPLC members proudly hold him up as a great example of leadership, humility and service … or Lionism! … and are proud to join him in celebrating his achievements as a Lion. The gathering was organized by RHSOP Lions to honor and make a presentation to Lion Doug as he readies himself for the new set of responsibilities in LCI. During the evening , he shared titbits of his 36 year xperience as a Lion in several different positions with the organization , and took the opportunity to induct three new Lions into the RHSOPLC, namely Lion Bihari Lall, Lion Tejkoomar (Ravo) Persaud and Lion Stacey Mohamed.

Several Lions paid tribute to Lion Doug’s trail blazing contributions to Lionism, especially to our home District 20-K1 in New York & Bermuda, our State organization, after which a check for $5,000 was presented to him by the Club’s President Lion Romeo Hitlall.

This presentation was funded by donations from the members of the Club and will help to defray expenses that Lion Doug will incur in his campaign for President LCI.
