QUEENS, NY — It’s a home away from home for seniors who attend the Queens Borough Adult Day Care center.
The center, located at 137-08 31st Road in Flushing, New York, offers a family-like social community for seniors to enjoy their day, while at the same receive the care they need.
Natalya Gasova, who manages the center, in an interview with THE WEST INDIAN recently said, “It’s like a family here. They (the seniors) come here and they spend the day just like a family. We go through good times and tough times together.”
She added, “We love them and we care about them, and that is why we give them the best treatment that they will find anywhere in New York City.”
Queens Borough Adult Day Care is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm and seniors can choose a five-hour schedule that best suits them. “Everyday we have different activities. So they choose the day based on what they like to do,” Gasova said.
The free daily activities include Bingo, tennis, dancing, billiards, karaoke, mahjong, chess, gardening, singing and gentle exercises.
Educational program include arts and crafts, computer classes, singing, piano classes and citizenship classes. The center also offers social clubs, holiday celebrations, birthday parties and local outings.
Free daily services include door-to-door transportation, social work services, barber and manicure services, and international phone calls.
The center offers free wholesome, nutritionally balanced, ethnic and specialized meals and snacks daily.
While most of the seniors are covered by medicaid, there are a few self-paying members, according to Gasova.
To apply, seniors must be at least 60 years old. The center serves all five boroughs of New York City and Long Island.
