NYC Commission on Human Rights to Hold Southwest Queens Day of Service


The Commission-led event will feature 28 city agencies and community organizations providing information and free services to the community

On Saturday March 9th, the NYC Commission on Human Rights will hold a Day of Service in Richmond Hill, Queens in partnership with several Indo-Caribbean and South Asian community organizations. The event will offer free, on-site services including legal assistance for: housing, domestic violence, immigration and discrimination as well as information on workforce development, English Classes, senior services, and more.

In addition to the NYC Commission on Human Rights, several other City agencies and mayoral offices will be present including the Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Affairs with its IDNYC Mobile Clinic (IDNYC is a free Government-issued identification card which is valid in New York City and benefits every New Yorker including undocumented immigrants who struggle to obtain a government-issued ID), Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, Thrive NYC (First Lady McCray’s Mental Health initiative), NYC Human Resources Administration (the agency that administers public benefits like food stamps), NYC Housing Preservation and Development, the Department of Citywide Administration Services, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will all be on hand to offer information and services.

Co-sponsors of the event include several local non-profit organizations including the Caribbean Equality Project, Chhaya Community Development Corporation, Interfaith Council for Community Development, Jahajee Sisters, Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus and the Indo-Caribbean Alliance.
