GUYANA — An 18-year-old, Sophia man was remanded to prison this week, after being charged with the murder of his 18-month-old niece, according to a News Source (newssourcegy.com) report.
The Court, according to the news report, heard that the man – Sherwin Roberts – threw the baby out of the window of her father’s small wooden shack over her gold earrings.
According to the police, on September 01, at 98 North Sophia, he murdered Rhoshawna Pilgrim.
The accused allegedly broke a window and gained access to the house, where he attempted to remove the earrings from his sleeping niece, News Source reported.
The older siblings of the young baby saw the man in action and raised an alarm by screaming. It was then that he grabbed the crying child and threw her through the window into the swampy backyard of the property.
He reportedly made his way to the area and covered the child with several pieces of wood and zinc sheets leaving her to die.
Her body was submerged under approximately one and a half feet of water and slush.
The incident sent shockwaves throughout the community. The accused will make his next court appearance later this month, according to the newssourcegy.com.
