PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY — Thousands of Muslims gathered at mosques, parks, conference halls and other prayer sites on Sunday and Monday to participate in the Eid-ul-Adha prayers.
The Muslim Center of Greater Princeton in New Jersey held its Eid-ul-Adha prayer on Sunday at the West Windsor Community Park, where thousands, including Caribbean American Muslims, gathered.
The Eid prayer was led by world renowned Quran reciter and nasheed artist, Sheikh Mishary Alafasy, who is currently on a US tour. The Eid khutbah (sermon) was delivered by Imam Safwan Eid of the Muslim Center of Greater Princeton.
Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to God.
During this time also, Muslims perform the pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).
