NEW YORK — On Friday September 24, 2021, the Guyana Consulate in New York hosted a series of meetings for the President of Guyana, His Excellency Mohamad Irfaan Ali; Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo and other senior government officials to meet with various sectors of the Guyanese diaspora in New York.
The scheduling and coordination of these meetings was spearheaded by Fazal (Joe) Yussuff, Advisor on Investment and Diaspora Affairs to the Guyana Consulate.
The full day sessions which was held at the JFK Hilton Hotel attracted Guyanese and non-Guyanese from the media, Interfaith Groups, Business leaders and the general public. The breakout groups were interactive where attendee had the opportunity to interact with the President and Vice President. Attendee from all the boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx) and from as far as Florida showed up.
President Ali and Vice President Jagdeo also met with New York Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin, Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, Deputy Queens Borough President Rhonda Binda and Queens Democratic District Leader Richard David. Members from the International Center for Democracy, ICD, played an integral part in helping to put together this event and working with other support groups to ensure that this event was a success.
This was President Ali’s first official visit to New York as President. President Ali addressed the UN General Assembly and held high level meetings with several other Heads of State. The Diaspora was delighted to meet the President.
The President thanked the diaspora for their continuous support especially their efforts that helped restored democracy in Guyana.
The Diaspora meetings at the JFK Hilton Hotel New York with the President and Vice President was viewed live via social media and other media network in Guyana and around the world.
