Dillon Removed as National Security Minister in Minor Cabinet Re-shuffle

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – National Security Minister retired Brigadier
Edmund Dillon had his appointment revoked as Prime Minister Dr. Keith
Rowley Monday announced a minor re-shuffling of his cabinet.

According to a statement issued from the Office of the Prime Minister,
Dillon, who held the portfolio since the People’s national Movement
(PNM) came to power in September 2015, will now have responsibility for
the Ministry of Housing and Urban development, which Rowley previously
held.

The statement said that Prime Minister Rowley had advised President
Paula-Mae Weekes on Sunday, to appoint Communications Minister
Stuart Young to the position of National Security Minister.

It said that Prime Minister had advised the President to revoke the
Young’s appointment as Minister in the Ministry of the Attorney General
and Legal Affairs.

He will in addition to the new portfolio also continue to be the Minister in
the Office of the Prime Minister

According to the statement, Prime Minister Rowley has also asked
President Weekes to revoke the appointment of Maxie Cuffie as Minister
in the Ministry of Public Administration and appoint him as Parliamentary
Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration.

Cuffie returned to work last week, one year after he suffered a stroke and
had been recuperating in the United States.

He had earlier been replaced as Minister of Public Administration by
Marlene Mc Donald, who, herself had returned to work last week
following a short period of illness. – CMC
