Jamaica Gov’t Expresses Condolences to Family of Teen Killed in Florida School Shooting


KINGSTON, Jamaica – Foreign Affiars Minister Kamina Johnson Smith has expressed condolences to the family of Helena Ramsey, who was killed in last week’s school shooting in Florida.

In a statement on Monday, the Ministry confirmed that Ramsey, 17, was of Jamaican heritage.

Ramsay, was one of the 17 killed by a 19-year old gunman who opened fire on students and school staff.

The police in Broward county confirmed that her mother is Jamaican and her father Trinidadian.

The shooting, took place in Parkland, a residential community in the county – home to several Jamaicans.

Johnson Smith said her ministry is in touch with the Consulate General in Miami as well as officials elsewhere county. – CMC
